The discovery of the "Dolomite Bear" in 1987 by Willy Costamoling of Corvara led to the founding of the Museum Ladin Ursus ladinicus, an extraordinary place dedicated to this new cave bear species, the Ursus ladinicus. The Conturines Cave at an altitude of 2,800 metres has uncovered extraordinary remains that have added an important chapter to the animal history of the Dolomites. Opened in 2011, the museum offers a fascinating journey through the history and surroundings of the forest runner who lived 40,000 years ago.
